Summer near the City

While our top city destinations are fabulous and more than worth a visit in themselves, the summer months often requires spreading ones wings a bit further and exploring the surrounding area. So what exactly is a bit further afield but still within easy reach?

1.     Barcelona: When temperatures rise it’s time to head for the coast. Barcelona has various areas of coastline accessible by good transport links. From the hip & happening beach resorts such as Sitges to the aquamarine coastline of the northern Costa Brava, there is something for everyone. For thrills & excitement, Port Aventura theme park including water-park & new Ferrari land near the roman town of Tarragona could fit the bill.
2.     Paris: Many head to the French capital as an access point to Disneyland, and as all-round family entertainment this is sure to live up to expectations! As well as Cinderella’s castle, you can also head to some bona fide French chateaux and palace’s such as the Palace at Versailles or the numerous Chateaux of the Loire valley. And if you have ever wondered what Monet’s gardens look like in reality, then a visit to them in Giverny is easily accomplished in a day.
3.     Rome: Cool off & have fun at the Waterpark Hydromania or head for one of the beaches along the coast such as Ostia or Santa Severa. Alternatively, take a boat trip to the beautiful island of Ponza where you can visit its caves, swim or snorkel in its waters and wander around picturesque towns & villages.
4.     Lisbon: The nearby coastline has been much overlooked in favour of the Algarve to the south. This is set to change as families begin to discover the rugged beauty of this area. With the arriival of the Martinhal Cascais family suites hotel, this area is now opening up to families.
